New in Theaters: “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” and “Not Another Church Movie”

1.  “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes”  (PG-13)  Trailer

This is the fourth movie in the rebooted “Planet of the Apes” franchise, and the 10th one overall.  This one is set many generations after Caesar’s death, so it features an entirely new cast.  It’s directed by Wes Ball, the guy who did the “Maze Runner” trilogy.

It stars Owen Teague as a young chimpanzee hunter trying to rescue his family from another clan of apes that are trying to get their hands on human technology.

He’s helped by a human girl played by British actress Freya Allan, who you’d know as Ciri from “The Witcher” or as The Widow on “Into the Badlands”.

The rest of the cast includes Kevin Durand from “Lost” as the ambitious leader of the rival clan, Eka Darville from “Jessica Jones” as the gorilla commander of his army, and William H. Macy as an opportunistic human collaborator.

2.  “Not Another Church Movie”  (R)  Trailer

A parody of Tyler Perry movies that stars Kevin Daniels as a guy named “Taylor Pharry” who’s commanded by God to write a movie inspired by his dysfunctional family.

Jamie Foxx plays God and Mickey Rourke is the Devil.  The rest of the cast includes Lamorne Morris (Winston on “New Girl”), Tisha Campbell (“Martin”), Jasmine Guy (“A Different World”), Kyla Pratt (“The Proud Family”), and Vivica A. Fox.
