New in Theaters: Disney’s “Strange World” and “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery”

1.  Strange World (PG-13)  Trailer

This animated movie features Disney’s first gay teen character.

It’s about a family on an expedition to figure out what’s threatening their world’s main power source.  Jake Gyllenhaal is in charge of the expedition, Gabrielle Union plays his wife, and comedian Jaboukie Young-White is their 16-year-old son.

Dennis Quaid is also in it as his long lost father, and Lucy Liu is the president who asks Jake to follow in his father’s footsteps.

2.  Devotion  (PG-13)  Trailer

Jonathan Majors and Glen Powell play Korean War heroes Jesse Brown and Tom Hudner, the Navy’s most celebrated wingmen in the earliest days of racial integration for their fighter pilots.  It’s based on a true story.

Ensign Brown was the first African-American pilot to complete the Navy’s basic flight training program.  And their friendship was so strong that Ensign Hudner intentionally crashed his own plane to try to save Brown after he was shot down.

3.  Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery  (PG-13)  Trailer  (Limited)

Daniel Craig returns as Detective Benoit Blanc for this “Knives Out” sequel where a tech billionaire (Edward Norton) invites him to a murder mystery party on his private island in Greece.

Of course, someone ends up dead and Benoit must crack the case.  The list of suspects includes Kate HudsonDave BautistaLeslie Odom Jr.Kathryn Hahn, and Janelle Monae.

It’ll only be in theaters for one week. It hits Netflix next month, on December 23rd.
