New in Theaters: “Missing” and “The Son”

1.  Missing  (PG-13)  Trailer

It’s a mystery thriller about a teenage girl named June played by Storm Reid from “A Wrinkle in Time”, who is searching for her mom who went missing while on vacation in Colombia with a new boyfriend.

June uses technology to try to track her mom down, but as she digs deeper, she realizes she never really knew her.  The missing mom is played by Nia Long, from “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air”.

2.  The Son  (PG-13)  Trailer  (Limited)

This drama follows a father named Peter, played by Hugh Jackman.  His ex-wife, played by Laura Dern, has their teenage son come live with him, his new wife played by Vanessa Kirby (“The Crown”), and their infant son.

Peter strives to be the father that his own (Anthony Hopkins) couldn’t be.  But by trying to correct the mistakes of his past, he loses sight of the present.

3.  When You Finish Saving the World  (R)  Trailer  (Limited)

This is the directorial debut of Jesse Eisenberg.  Julianne Moore and Finn Wolfhard (“Stranger Things”) play a mother and son who have a strained relationship.

They both try to find replacements for each other.  The mother tries to parent a teen at the shelter she runs for victims of domestic abuse.  And the son tries to pursue a young woman.

4.  Alone at Night  (R)  Trailer  (Limited)

Ashley Benson plays a woman who goes to a friend’s remote cabin, while going through a breakup.  She continues to model for an adults-only live-streaming website, but then the power goes out.  She then becomes terrorized by a masked killer.

It also stars Pamela AndersonParis HiltonG-Eazy, and Luis Guzman.
