New in Theaters: “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” and “The Fabelmans”

1.  Black Panther: Wakanda Forever  (PG-13)  Trailer

Marvel decided against recasting the role of Black Panther after Chadwick Boseman passed away in 2020, so the nation of Wakanda is also mourning the loss of their King T’Challa.

When an underwater civilization led by the anti-hero Namor threatens the surface world and tries to take advantage of their loss, a new female hero rises to wear the Black Panther suit.

Letitia WrightDanai GuriraAngela Bassett, and Martin Freeman are all back from the first movie.  Namor is played by Tenoch Huerta, who you might know from “Narcos: Mexico” or “The Forever Purge”.

The soundtrack also includes Rihanna’s return to music, with Lift Me Up.

2.  The Fabelmans  (PG-13)  Trailer  (Limited)

Steven Spielbergwrote and directed this as a semi-autobiographical story about his life growing up and his first years as a director. 

It’s about an aspiring filmmaker named Sammy, who uses the power of films to understand his dysfunctional family and the people around him.  Sammy is played by Gabriel LaBelle from the Showtime series “American Gigalo”.

Michelle Williamsand Paul Dano play his parents.  And Seth Rogen is the dad’s best friend.

3.  Sam & Kate  (R)  Trailer  (Limited)

This romantic drama stars Dustin Hoffman and his real-life son Jake Hoffman, with Sissy Spacek and her real-life daughter Schuyler Fisk.

Sam returns to his hometown to take care of his dad, then falls in love with Kate . . . and their parents fall in love too.  Jake and Shuyler play the title characters.
