New in Theaters: Viola Davis, David Bowie, and Fletch

1.  The Woman King  (PG-13)  Trailer

It’s based on a true story about a group of all-female warriors called the Agojie, who protected the African Kingdom of Dahomey in the 1800s.  Viola Davis is training a new generation to defend their kingdom from their enemies.  John Boyega is also in it.

2.  See How They Run  (PG-13)  Trailer  (Limited)

This comedy whodunnit takes place in the 1950s in London.  Sam Rockwell and Saoirse Ronan are investigating the murder of an American director who was adapting a stage play into a movie.  He’s played by Adrien Brody.  It also stars Ruth Wilson from “His Dark Materials” and Harris Dickinson from the “Kingsmen” film series.

3.  Pearl  (R)  Trailer

Mia Goth returns as Pearl for this prequel to the horror movie “X”.  It takes place on a Texas farm in 1918, just before the end of World War I, as our future killer yearns for a life away from her disapproving mother and paralyzed father.

4.  Moonage Daydream  (PG-13)  Trailer  (Limited)

A documentary film about David Bowie that includes unreleased concert footage and uses Bowie’s own narration.  It’s expected to hit HBO Max in March.

5.  Confess, Fletch  (R)  Trailer  (Limited)

Jon Hamm takes over the role of Fletch, an undercover reporter who was originally played by Chevy Chase for a pair of movies back in the ’80s.  This reboot is based on the second novel in the series, where Fletch becomes the prime suspect for multiple murders in Italy and must prove his innocence.  It’ll premiere on Showtime on October 28th.
